Travel: Namib Desert

The Namib Desert is considered to be the oldest desert in the world. It has less than 10 mm of rain annually and is almost completely barren. It’s sand dunes, which at more than 300 meters high, are among the tallest sand dunes in the world.

Being in Windhoek for a short assignment, I had 3 days left to cross the country twice and climb “Big Daddy” (probably the tallest dune on earth). Walking on sand means making two steps forward and one back. Equipped with two cameras but little water it feels like climbing Mount Everest. Sossusvlei is magic – one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to.

Aerial: Engadin Skimarathon

Well known, the annual Engadine cross country skiing marathon leads from Maloja to S-Chanf in south Eastern Switzerland. Around 12’000 sportsmen and -women participated in the event. From above, they look like ants.

Portrait: Handicamp

It has been a wonderful experience to be part of a summer camp with mentally and physically disabled people during the past few years. These camps have been a nice break without any photography.

There is one exception: For guest entertainment, I shot this amusing portrait series during our “colorful evening”, the highlight of every camp. Not only the participants of the camp have posed. There are also some of the persons in charge on the photographs.

Find out who is who – which are the five persons in charge?

Portrait: Taxi Lesotho

It was an adventurous trip from Mohale Dam to Katse Dam in Lesotho, the Kingdom in the Sky. To make a long story short: Traveling on my own, I ended up giving many friendly people a ride.

As “fee” for driving with me, I took a portrait of every passenger. Of course, the horse, did not ride with me. But while changing passengers that guy insisted that I take a photo of him with horse. Unfortunately I missed to note passengers names. Being a taxi driver in Lesotho is a busy job.

Portrait: Holy Ghost

These portraits of clergyman and -woman are part of a project about religion in Switzerland. I discovered some amazing similarities between partly very different beliefs…

Portrait: Multilingual Authors

The book “Mother, where sleeps the language?”, published at Limmatverlag, introduces 14 multilingual Swiss authors. It’s about the challenge and gain to work and publish in different languages. To me, this fits very well to photography that, somehow, is a universal language with many different dialects.

Coming home…

Es ist ein magischer Moment, wenn ein Flugzeug nach dem anderen zur Landung ansetzt in Zürich und dabei vor dem aufgehenden Mond vorbeifliegt.

Aerial: Glaciers

Have a look on some of the most beautiful glaciers in the heart of the Swiss Alps – or what is left of them. Maybe they come back in the next ice age.

Aerial: Dams

Water power is Switzerland’s biggest source of renewable energy. It covers about 55% of total consumption. Building these huge walls is a compromise between protecting and destroying nature. After all, they are masterpieces of engineering and architecture and quite photogenic, especially seen from a bird’s view.

Travel: Lisbon Tiles & Walls

I’ve been sent to Lisbon to take pictures of some Europa League soccer game. During the day of the game, I had a few hours to visit this beautiful city. Most houses are covered with either tiles or graffiti. It’s awesome. Enjoy a subtile symphony of colors with changing variations of blue, pink, red, brown, yellow, green, grey and everything in between.
